 The Word "Christmas"

What is your opinion about the word "Christmas" in schools these days? It is all over the radio how Wal Mart and Target employees can't greet the customers with Merry Christmas, because it might offend the people who don't celebrate Christmas. I think it is all ridiculous. I mean I'm a Christian, but it doesn't offend me if someone says "Happy Hanukkah" to me. I mean I think if the constitution in America reads "Free Speech", then it should allow free speech. If someone greets me with "Happy Hanukkah" it is just like greeting me with "Merry Christmas" to me. They celebrate their way and I celebrate mine, but either way why doesn't everyone just get along? There are far to many major things going on in the world with war, poverty, etc. to be arguing over something silly like this. I don't get all political or biblical very often, but I think this is something I would like to hear opinions on. So, please comment away. All comments are welcomed!

I'm going to UK for january from Iran, and I cant wait to experience the Christmas there as well.

Your style is entertaining. how could you acquire this taste of humor?

I'm a sick indiviudal with my taste, that is how.

*giggles*

Enjoy the UK.

I have been wished a Merry Christmas in most of the stores I've been to this year, including Target and Circuit City.

Maybe it's my long, white beard! :-)

Seriously, next time someone wishes me a Happy Holiday, I plan to look at them funny and ask if they could be more specific. Not because "Happy Holidays" offends me, in fact I find myself saying it a lot, but because I think it would be really funny, if I could pull it off with the right facial expression.

I crack myself up thinking about it, but it's probably funnier in my head than it would be in practice. :D

Sounds good to me. Let me know how it turns out. After I heard the Wal Mart/Target things on the radio some employees called in and said it wasn't true.

Preach on sister.
Thanks for posting this, and for commenting on my blog. I am sick of it as well. So Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to you to, Twisted!

*giggles*

Come on over, MTW. I'll even share you with MM over here.

Pfft! Maybe you need to ask Nutz, because she'll tell you I really don't share very well. But it was nice of you to offer.

*sticks tongue out at Sonya*

Watch out so the cat (MR. E) doesn't get that tongue.

Well when I used to work in a supermarket about 15-20 years ago(jeez that makes me sound old!) I always said Happy Holidays. There were exceptions. Sometimes it was obvious by what they were buying if it was for Christmas or Hannukah(also depending on the date that Hannukah fell). I also lived in a predominately Jewish neighborhood. I can understand not feeling included or having your holiday not given the same attention bowever at the same time I really believe that making someone uncomfortable to not say something is far worse.

If we have freedom of religion here we should be able to express it yet also include others.

I just don't see the big hoopla here that everyone is making this out to be. SAy Merry Christmas to those that you know celebrate it or say Happy Hanukkah to those that celebrate or even Happy Solstice to all. I just don't see why someone would be offended if someone said Happy Holidays is what I guess I am trying to say.

Happy Groundhog's Day!

Zombs -

That is pretty much my point. None of it offends me. To me Happy holidays covers it all. It covers from Thanksgiving to New Year's.

Woohoo! Happy Groundhog's Day!
In case anyone wants to know what to get me for Groundhog's Day, you might want to ask Sonya and MM what I like the most!

Not offended at Merry Christmas at all. I love the Christmas season.

I am offended by people using Christmas to get all offended, which is completely not what it is about. I think saying Happy Holidays is fine too.

Anything is good, as long as I get my eggnog.

If you're offended by the words 'Merry Christmas,' then you're a douchebag.

If you're offended by the words 'Happy Holidays,' then you're a douchebag.

If you're offended by the words 'Happy Hannukah,' then you're a douchebag.

See where this going? In other words, Bill O'Reilly, you're a douchebag. There is no 'war on Christmas.' People are wishing you well, and people all have different ways of doing it at this time of year.
